 The American Royal announced the 2017 “Best Sauce on the Planet” winners following a record setting 30th Annual American Royal World Series of BBQ sauce contest held at Kansas Speedway.
Among the winners was a local company from Dalton, MN, Curt’s BBQ Sauce. Curt’s Medium BBQ Sauce placed 2nd out of 169 sauces in the specialty category and overall, placed 3rd out of 606 other sauces! Curt’s Mild BBQ Sauce placed 11 out of 218 sauces and Curt’s Hot BBQ sauce placed 12 out of 145 sauces. On May 7, a group of 70 Certified Barbecue Judges assembled at the American Royal to participate in a blind tasting of a record setting 606 barbecue sauce entries. The assembled judges evaluated barbecue sauces submitted from 43 states and 13 countries. The furthest entry came from Melbourne, Australia traveling 9,282 miles to compete. This year’s contest was the largest in its history with over 150 more entries than in 2016.
